Flying Low & Passing Through are complementary contemporary dance techniques created by David Zambrano (Venezuela/Netherlands). David is a nationally recognized choreographer and teacher having presented his work and taught his techniques, Flying Low and Passing Through in over 50 countries.

In 2010 David Zambrano carried out a unique project called 50 Days Flying Low/ Passing Through Costa Rica where 50 dancers studied these two techniques during 50 days with him in San José, Costa Rica. I was the only Brazilian to participate in this project and during the residency I developed the dance video Day Project.

FLYING LOW focuses primarily on the dancer's relationship with the floor. It uses simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body to activate the core's relationship with the joints, providing greater efficiency in movement to and from the floor. The sequences challenge students to discover some of the primary laws of physics such as cohesion and expansion. Each sequence challenges the student to bring and send his energies with his whole body, making the movement always pass through his body, without forgetting any part of it. The technique stimulates the thought/action of how it is possible to command the body, which is a tool of everything we call us.

PASSING THROUGH invites you to move dynamically, always crossing/cutting space as you move. Each participant will discover countless spirals inside and outside the body, and together with their movement repertoire, the group will form a large network interconnecting and transforming the space and themselves at every moment. In crafting an instant composition, we will focus on creating and developing the dynamics of complex systems. We will constantly practice the adaptability of body and mind so that as a group, we can create dynamics that will be flexible, complex and unpredictable.
